FLTWS Zoom Social, Dec. 4 - Wildlife Trafficking: Florida's freshwater turtles as a case study

Please join us for our Wildlife Connections Zoom Social  on Thursday (12/4) from 11:30am - 12:30pm, featuring Dr. Brooke Talley discussing "Wildlife Trafficking: Florida's freshwater turtles as a case study". MARK YOUR CALENDAR AND JOIN US!

Dr. Brooke Talley is the Turtle Conservation and Policy Director with the Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (ARC). Brooke will discuss how wildlife trafficking in the United States is a significant conservation and law enforcement challenge. Freshwater turtles represent a case study in wildlife trafficking because of the known impacts to turtle populations, enforcement challenges, and increasing demand for turtles overseas. To tackle this conservation challenge, the Collaborative to Combat the Illegal Trade in Turtles (CCITT) focuses on a holistic approach where law enforcement personnel, biologists, human dimension specialists, attorneys, veterinarians, and others work collaboratively across the U.S. and Canada. This presentation celebrates Florida’s accomplishments in combating the illegal turtle trade while also highlighting opportunities for improvement.
