Description:
Student will assist Land Resources staff with field activities and related administrative tasks at Lake Apopka North Shore Restoration Area https://www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation/lake-apopka/ . This is an active land management field position including wildlife surveys, monitoring of listed plant and animal species; maintenance of fire equipment, possible participation in prescribed burns, data entry and analysis, GIS work, trail maintenance, public contact, and general office duties. Student will also be provided with opportunities to cross train with other work units.
Position includes spending time in the field under typical Florida conditions of heat, humidity, thunderstorms and intense insect activity. Typical field dress for these activities include jeans, short or long-sleeved shirt, hat, and ankle-height field boots. Any required specialized clothing or equipment will be provided by St. Johns River Water Management District.
This is a 20-hour position with a work schedule consisting of two to three 8 hour blocks of time, Monday through Thursday, with some weekend hours possible. Availability and schedules will be discussed when contacted for any interview. This is a paid internship position at $12 per hour with maximum of 20 hours per week. The internship will run from January 5 to April 25, 2018.
Minimum Qualifications:
A college or university student currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program; at least a junior level, and working in the occupational area of his or her course of study. All students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
