This is professional position managing and coordinating statewide wildlife viewing program activities for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Wildlife Viewing Program.  The purpose of this program is to increase support for fish and wildlife conservation by increasing the numbers and engagement of wildlife viewers in Florida.  This is a career service position with an annual salary of $32,088.68

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate wildlife viewing programs that incorporate the natural history and management of target species and broaden awareness and support for wildlife conservation and the agency mission.
  • Apply effective strategies to recruit and maintain wildlife viewers.
  • Lead field experiences that introduce participants to wildlife viewing.
  • Coordinate the Wings Over Florida (WOF) bird and butterfly listing programs.
  • Develop online training opportunities focused on building wildlife viewing skills
  • Maintain the WOF products, program materials and social and website content.
  • Maintain and strengthen wildlife viewing program partnerships
  • Monitor trends and developments in wildlife viewing programs to improve and expand wildlife viewing in Florida.
  • Actively participate in the National Wildlife Viewing and Nature Tourism Working Group
  • Promote Wildlife Viewing programs and FWC at outreach events
  • Represent the agency and Office of Public Access Services on appropriate committees.
  • Develop operational work plans and prepare required program reports.
  • Prepare and monitor program budget.
  • Respond to customer requests for information as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, prepare required forms, participate in professional development courses, complete timesheets in a timely and through manor, respond to telephone and mail inquires.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Florida’s natural communities
  • Knowledge of wildlife management practices
  • Ability to identify and interpret natural history information about birds, butterflies and other Florida wildlife
  • Knowledge of the recruitment and retention strategies
  • Knowledge of adult learning strategies
  • Excellent public speaking skills including leading field experiences
  • Experience in outreach and promotion
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Knowledge of social media and website maintenance
  • Skilled in operational planning and implementation
  • Skilled in using computer software applications particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe and Acrobat Professional.
  • Ability to travel when required (26% – 50%).

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a life or physical science.
