Rate of Pay:  $15.43/hour (40 hours per week)

 

Description of duties:   Incumbent will be responsible for day to day operations on the Okaloacoochee Slough WMA. This OPS Biological Scientist II position includes a combination of equipment maintenance and field work.  Incumbent must be able to operate and maintain various types of equipment such as farm tractors, mowers, ATVs, buggies, trailers, motorized hand tools (chainsaws, weed-eaters, etc) and roller choppers and discs.  Field work includes various land management activities (preparing firebreaks, prescribed burning, mowing, treating exotic vegetation) as well as hunter check station operation (including collection of biological samples), wildlife surveys, water level monitoring, and assisting the lead area biologist with other projects as needed.

 

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities: Must have experience in safely operating, maintaining, and repairing tools, power equipment, agricultural equipment and land management equipment.  Must be able to work as part of a team and must be able to work independently.  Must be in good physical condition and able to work outside in the South Florida environment year-round.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs and walk or stand for extended time periods. Incumbent must have a vehicle for transportation to/from the jobsite.  Regular working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday but must be able to work variable hours depending on the need; this may include early mornings, evenings, nights and weekends.
