Level of Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in a life or biological science (such as wildlife conservation, natural resources management, environmental science or related subject) and one year of experience is required.

OPS Employment Description: The position is OPS (Other Personnel Services) which means that employees are paid for the number of hours they work.  OPS employees do not receive any form of paid leave, paid holidays, or participation in the Florida Retirement System. OPS employees do have the option to receive health insurance benefits.

 

Description of duties

This is specialized professional environmental work that includes oversight of monitoring information for impacts to marine turtles associated with beachfront lighting and beach nourishment.  Responsibilities include working with agency computer programmers on the development of a database to track monitoring reports; providing technical assistance to local, regional, state, and federal agencies, and other activities necessary to successfully accomplish tasks identified for the recovery of marine turtle populations. 

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, to work outdoors in the coastal environment during the summer and occasionally at night, excellent organizational and verbal & written communication skills, strongdatabase and biological skills, prior experience working in marine turtle biology, behavior, and/or conservation, data management skills including experience using database programs (Excel, Access, and SharePoint), basic website management, ability to interpret and convey data including producing data summaries.     Position requires occasional overnight travel.
