Description of duties: This is a full-time, field-oriented Fish & Wildlife Technician position on the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area. This position requires proficient operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment for resource management purposes. The type of equipment includes swamp buggies, ATVs, tractors, and mowers. Other responsibilities include maintenance of roads, trails, fences, gates and signs, operation of a hunter check station, collection of biological samples (jawbones, tissue samples, etc.) from harvested animals, chemical treatment of exotic plants, and custodial functions such as trash pickup and camping area maintenance. The person will also assist the biologist in activities such as prescribed burning and wildlife surveys and may assist in training and supervising seasonal personnel and volunteers.

Residency requirement: Employee must reside within a 25-mile radius of JW Corbett WMA.

Employee  housing option (RV pad with hookups) may be available at the J.W. Corbett WMA field office.

Level of Education: High School or GED. Must obtain a State of Florida Class A commercial driver’s license within 180 days of appointment and maintain licensure thereafter.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability and willingness to perform difficult physical work for extended and irregular periods, under adverse conditions, and in various extremes of weather. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and the ability to communicate with colleagues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to safely, effectively, and proficiently use and maintain a variety of hand tools, vehicles, and equipment. Ability to plan and organize work assignments effectively and efficiently. Basic use of personal computers.
