Description:
The Land Conservation and Planning (LCP) subsection has program responsibilities that include administration and implementation of the FWC’s land acquisition and land management planning programs, as well as numerous other types of land conservation and management work projects on a statewide basis. These include: FWC liaison to the Acquisition and Restoration Council (ARC); administering and implementing the FWC’s Land Management Planning Program; the FWC Florida Forever Inholdings and Additions Land Acquisition Program; intra-agency, inter-agency, and stakeholder coordination; and public meeting facilitation. Other work duties include projects requiring extensive Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis, review of new legislation, policy development, issue teams, and other special projects relating to conservation acquisition, planning, and land management issues.
Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for the following: Assists with and coordinates the development and updating of land management plans for Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Wildlife Environmental Areas (WEAs) including the coordination with area biologists and other relevant stakeholders, and traveling to the area for site visits, as necessary. Includes extensive coordination with local and county entities, stakeholders, other FWC staff, and agencies (e.g. Florida Forest Service and Department of Environmental Protection), to ensure all statutory components of the land management plans are completed.
Assist with the development and updating of GIS files, including accessing remote server to share, edit, and managed data used by entire section. Develop GIS layers and GIS analysis for commission-managed lands, Florida Forever projects, and potential acquisitions. Also, assist section with evaluation and updating of GIS models, layers, and templates.
Assist with the design, execution and travel for Management Advisory Group (MAG) meetings and public hearings, which is a required component for the development of plans for WMAs and WEAs; including contacting stakeholders, organizing overview and other required documents, ensuring reservations are made, keeping ongoing communicate with area biologist and other relevant staff, and coordinating and executing internal meetings in order to properly accomplish the management plan development requirements. In addition, travel to assist fellow planners with the execution of assigned MAGs and public hearings.
Responsible for attending internal meetings, including staff meetings, coordination meetings with other sections and biologists, and any other necessary meetings to assist in the accomplishment of management plan development and land acquisition projects.
Presenting FWC Management Plans at ARC meetings, and attending ARC meetings, including traveling to periodic council meetings that occur outside of Tallahassee.
Coordinate and perform the review of management plans and management plan amendments submitted by other agencies to the ARC, as required by Florida Statutes. Assisting in the coordination and possible attending of the Land Management Reviews for FWC-managed areas.
Assist section with development, coordination, and/or implementation of the other necessary projects as appropriate, such as acquisition project evaluation, Florida Forever prioritization, office purchasing, vehicle maintenance, etc.
Performs other duties, tasks and projects as needed and assigned by supervisor. Attends relevant training programs as required or recommended by supervisor.
