Description of Duties: The person would help plan and conduct trapping surveys of alligator snapping turtles in panhandle rivers. The person should be able to operate a motorboat, set large hoop net traps, mark turtles by drilling marginal scutes and inserting PIT tags, and collect measurement data on turtles. Data will be entered into an Excel database. All equipment must be maintained and operated in safe working order, float plans need to be filed, and administrative tasks need to be completed.
Minimum Level of Education: B.S. degree in the biological sciences.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Applicant must obtain boater safety certification and be able to operate and trailer a motorboat. Applicant should have knowledge in turtle identification, trapping, and data collection. Applicant should be in good physical condition, able to lift at least 100 lb, willing to work long hours in inclement conditions and travel overnight for multiple days. Applicant must have the ability to maintain good working relationships with others in the office and field; think logically and apply problem-solving techniques; effectively communicate verbally and in writing; and maintain a valid driver’s license.
