This position is a term appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services (WS), National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) program, Florida Field Station located in Gainesville.
The program is multi-faceted and is directed at the reduction of wildlife damage as it relates to agriculture, human health and safety, public and private property, and natural resources..
The duties include but are not limited to the following:
o Plan and implement field, computer modeling, and laboratory studies.
o Develop tools and methods applicable to solving problems inflicted by vertebrates, with an emphasis on birds.
o Develop investigations and fully participate in the entire research process, including field work, data analysis, writing. reports of results for peer-reviewed publication, and presentations at professional conferences, stakeholder meetings, and outreach events.
o Responsible for designing and conducting studies devised to determine biological and behavioral attributes and characteristics of wildlife species, including their feeding ecology, movements, ranges, population densities, and population dynamics.
o Conducting complex computer modeling studies using statistical software and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
