Fisheries and Wildlife Biological Scientist II

Description of duties: Incumbent is responsible for day to day operations on the Holey Land and Rotenberger Wildlife Management Areas located in Palm Beach County for the Wildlife and Habitat Management section within the Division of Habitat and Species Conservation. Specific duties include contract oversight and participation in hydrologic and vegetative restoration programs, conducting wildlife surveys, developing and implementing budgets and annual operational plans, developing and promoting both hunting and non-hunting public use programs, and setting management and restoration objectives consistent with agency and division directives.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Must have knowledge of south Florida ecological communities, primarily the Everglades ecosystem, and the ability to navigate using GPS units and aerial maps. Must have the ability to operate specialized equipment, strong organizational skills, and experience in accurately collecting and organizing field data. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are preferred. This job involves strenuous work in extreme weather conditions typical of south Florida and requires the incumbent to be in good physical condition and able to work outside year-round. Must be able to work as part of a team and must be able to work independently in the field once trained.

Working hours: 8-5 M-F; early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required. Position will begin approximately mid-August.

Salary: $1,234.18 bi-weekly + benefits

Required qualifications:

• Must live within a 25-mile radius of the Sunrise Wildlife Field Office located at 10088 NW 53rd Street, Sunrise, FL 33351.

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree with a major in one of the biological sciences.

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class E driver’s license with a clean driving record.
